Most Companies Not Moving Forward with UC Improvements Due to Lack of Tools

The digital transformation is upon us. For years we’ve been talking about the great things technology would bring in the future as networks and infrastructures improved and as new solutions were created. The time is now. More than ever people are using their mobile devices, online connections and apps to communicate, collaborate and do just about everything.

For businesses, this is one of the most critical steps in the future of their work world. But so many are struggling to move forward with digital transformation because they are, “hampered by weak infrastructure and a lack of testing ability.” That’s what the results of a new survey from IR, a provider of experience management solutions for UC and contact centers, is saying.

The company conducted an independent survey of 511 U.S. senior decision makers about IT-related purchases in relation to UC and found that many are apprehensive to adapt new tools because they don’t think their infrastructures can handle it. 

According to the survey, the top reasons they didn’t believe they were ready included failure to do a pilot, insufficient training and they even noted a lack of support from the executive team as concerns.

Unified Communications is at the center of digital transformation. Ignoring it or being afraid to adapt for it can be a huge roadblock for companies. After all, how can you imagine surviving in the future without the ability to have a video conference, access email via your mobile device or share presentations digitally?

Worse than the fear of missing out on those productivity options is having solutions that don’t work and end up making the workforce even less productive than before. That’s what’s driving the apprehension.

So what should companies do? Experts say investing in the right tools is the only way to really be sure your UC deployment will be a successful one. It’s also good practice to do some deployment planning – things like network readiness assessments and other tools to ensure your system has all the minimum requirements needed before deployment.

Darc Rasmussen, managing director and chief executive officer at IR, echoed these sentiments, saying, “In order to drive digital transformation through UC, it is important to remove the doubt caused by the previously unknown issues lurking in that environment. Organizations need executive commitment to deliver an optimal user experience and must invest in a performance management solution that can assess network readiness and be able to troubleshoot and remediate problems quickly.”
